This is a final report from a 2025 ACSES Capacity Building Grant project by The University of Wollongong (UOW). The project’s aim was to build evaluative capacity amongst teams that run equity-promoting initiatives at the university, through an
Evaluation Capacity Building workshop, Evaluation Needs Assessment, and the development an exemplar Impact Evaluation plan for UOWs Retention Program.
Central to the project was the development of an Evaluation Capacity Needs Assessment Tool (the Tool). This tool served a dual purpose. Firstly, it sought to identify the capacity supports required at team level to successfully evaluate programs. Secondly, the tool acted as a self-reflection exercise and helped embed Evaluative Thinking for UOW staff at a range of levels.
