This is a final report from a 2025 ACSES Capacity Building Grant project by The University of Canberra (UC). The project’s aim was to further extend existing evaluation approaches in the University’s longstanding Aspire widening participation (WP) program, which works with primary school students (K–6) in small rural and regional schools.
The project was a collaboration between UC Student Equity and Participation (which includes the Aspire UC team) and two UC academic staff from the Faculty of Health.
The project consisted of a series of planning meetings, four workshops, a site visit to a primary school, and the development of a practical “how-to” manual to guide the evaluation of UC’s student equity programs, along with a plan for impact evaluation.
